Click on the Capture Video icon, then Options - Preferences - Disk Management. There's an "Insert Folder" icon there. Hit that, then enter the path to where you want to capture to. Make sure that you have this path "checked off". Any number of paths can be listed there, but only the "checked one" gets the video sent to it.

I've got my path set to my capture drive (E). It's the only path checked. The default C drive location is unchecked. My "My Documents" folder is located on my D drive, which is not even in the list and is where SB is putting the default.sfvidcap file.

What kind of drive is "E:"? Is it a hard drive physically located in your computer, or is it over a network to another computer? Is it a CDRW? What happened to "D"? I'm more wondering than suggesting anything, because this has me stumped. I went back and checked my settings, and I have:

unchecked c:\Documents and settings......
checked D:\My captures

And this works fine (D: is my 2nd HD in the same computer)

I appreciate your help. I have two physical drives in my system. The first one is partitioned as C and D and the second drive, which I use exclusively for video capture, is E. My C drive is purely the OS and program files. The D partition is where I keep all of my documents (pictures, personal stuff, etc.). The XP "My Documents" folder actually points to "D:\My Documents" (I prefer to partition my drive so as to separate personal files and OS type files).

I rechecked my settings in SB video capture since my last email and from the capture list under disk management I deleted everything except the E drive as a possible capture location. The only thing in my list is E:\Tapes, which is where I capture all of my video to. If I delete "D:\My Documents\default.sfvidcap" then invoke SB video capture, I get a warning message that says default.sfvidcapture could not be found. I click ok and eveything seems to work (no default.sfvidcap file created). But as soon as I exit from the video capture application, it recreates default.sfvidcap in the D:\My Documents directory. SB 2.0c did not do this. It allowed me to place the default.sfvidcap file in E:\Tapes and the next time I invoked it found it there.

One more thought. I wonder if I actually need to capture some video to the E drive before I exit from SB video capture. As it is I'm just invoking, and then exiting, trying to get the application to leave the default.sfvidcap file alone. But I never actually go through the process of capturing. I'll try that and see if this cures the problem.

I just looked and there is a "default" file there in the C:\docs and settings....
directory. Yet I know for a fact that I capture to the D: drive.

So your environment seems to be behaving like mine. They changed something between 2.0c and 3.0 that causes the tool to demand that this file exist in a specific folder. I even tried hiding it but SB complained that it didn't couldn't find it. I wonder what would happen if I deleted the "My Documents" directory altogether? ;-) I hate it when programmers do this kind of crap.

Oh, yeah, capturing works fine. I don't know what good this default file is for. But the tool seems to want to create it. Chienworks said he sees limited use for it, and he sounds like a veritable expert on this stuff.
