Changing format of e-mail video clips

I sometimes receive a video clip by e-mail that I would like to include in a movie. But the software won't accept it,i.e. it won't move onto the timeline from the file it is located in when I access it via Explorer. I am using Video Factory 2.0. Apparently the clip is made with an file format which VF 2.0 can't accept. Is there any software available which will convert it to a compatible format?

It might help if you tell us what format (file type) the clips are, and where they came from if you know.

Do you have Windows MovieMaker? Try opening the clips in there and saving them as either DV .avi or high-bit-rate WMV.
