Changing text colors

I'm making a Karaoke music video. How do I make the text change color to sync with the song?

Well, I've tried it and can't seem to get the Pan/crop to do the wipe effect..
1. How do you use the Pan/Crop to perform a wipe effect??
2. How do you use keyframes to highlight each word as it plays??
3. How do you shut off Pan/Crop restraints?
