Channels in 5.1 bleed?

>>I'm not trying to be rude to SF, but the ability to have control over center channel usage (discrete, L/R sum or a combination using divergence) IS the standard in both hardware/software design and production technique. It is not productive to assert as fact otherwise, regardless of implementation in Vegas.

I am basing my comments on recommend standards I have read. If you have alternative reading on 5.1 panning models, I would be very interested in reading them. I have discussed this with the other engineers involved in this here. The choice we made were based on information available in print. If there is some defacto standard that is accepted, we are wide open to providing more surround pan models.

Hi Steve and Peter

>>Correct me if I'm wrong but there's still no way to:

>>Pan one mono track discretely across the front three channels (i.e. when fully on L, C or R speaker, it does not appear in the other respective channels)

>>Statically place a mono dialog track in the center speaker, with 20-30% of its level also in the L and R fronts

That seems to be the case. First when I realised this, I thought it was a bug in surround panner. There's plenty of movies where you can hear usage of discreet center channel. And if you can do this kind of panning in other programs like Pro Tools, Nuendo, Samplitude, then why not in Vegas too.

Peter said in earlier post:
"I am not agaist it, I just cant see adding such a feature unless it was in widespread use."

Isn't using discreet center panning in many Hollywood movies a widespread use?
Atleast I think so, but maybe I'm wrong...

I don't want to flame SF, just giving my opinion.
