Charity

Just curious as to the types of "charity " (freebie) projects everyone/anyone gets involved with.

We started about 10 years ago producing a short video each year for our local United Way. This works well for us, since the money raised goes to a variety of organizations in the community. Since we claim it as our charitable "gift" to the community, it also gives us an easy "out" for everyone else who wants a freebie.

The 6 to 10 minute production takes only a few days to put together, but has seemed to be beneficial to eveyone involved, including great PR for us.

Any others?

We usually do one or two a year for organizations such as Food Lifeline, last year a V W road rally raising money for ALS, a religious group (not our own) that was raising money for building schools in Latin America. We kind of pick and choose. We also make real dollar contributions in the name of our company to a couple of the organizations in the Seattle area that raise money for community need -- perhaps most notably the Seafair Pirates.

Since my wife and I have both worked in the professional theatre for many years we try to do shoots at cost each year for small struggling performance groups as a "pay back" to the theatre community of which we have been a part for so long.

Mostly church, sometimes school performances, and the occasional individual who is struggling to pull together rememberances of a departed family member.

Offering out grants toward production for NFPs is another way to go. You can get some air time or ink promoting it, have orgs apply for it and give both your biz and their orgs a chance for some free publicity. Also, this is a way to see what might be out there that you don't know about. We did this a few years back and gave two very worthy NFPs free productions that they are still using for fund raising and awareness. Everybody wins.
