You can get excellent Ritek G04 blanks (4x DVD-R) for about $0.50 each in quantities of 100 from www.meritline.com and www.supermediastore.com.

They were cheaper last month, but I guess it's a supply-and-demand thing.

You can get the G05 blanks (8x DVD-R) for just $0.10 more.

For tapes I've used PROTape, right here in Austin. They advertise in Videomaker Magazine. I buy them in lots of 50 (for Pro Grade) and my prices via phone are cheaper than what they advertise on the web (56 - 84 cents depending on length).
