Cheap Vegas 8 Pro - what's the catch?

OK so you don't get a physical product, just a download. But if that's all thats missing this seems like a bargain. Unlike B&H's offer this one includes DVDA too.

Am I missing something? Anybody bought from these guys? Advice appreciated.

If it's too good to be true it probably isn't (unless it's being sold by B&H)

You are paying for a download. If this is legitimate I'll eat my Vegas install CD.

Probably cracked programs. I doubt it's legit.

I googled it and all I could find was people asking if it was legit
jonathan-kenefec wrote on 6/19/2008, 4:55 PM
Yes I am wary because it does seem too good a deal. I was about to go through B & H but then I saw this.

Hmmm...I have zero interest in dodgy software. But if it is legit it's a great deal...

usually d/l software does not install. I once was gonna pick up flash mx for like 1/10th the cost and figured its too good to be true.

with a little investigation you'll find other people have purchased from the site you mention and their software either did not install or it was BUGGY that it's useless.

its not legit.

I'd report it to sony

On reflection I'm going through B&H - at least we know they are definitely legit!

How is it even a question if it's legal or not? As nolonemo posted:

"2.3. You cannot register the software with the manufacturer and updates are available not for all the products"

If it was legal, you know you could register your software.

These fly-by-night software pirates really tick me off. It's because of aholes like these that we have to jump through hoops to get legally purchased apps registered and working. Of course, the software companies, like Sony, just have to put all those hoops in place to keep the legal owners honest and cause us the most hardship instead of going after aholes like these.

I know, easier said than done but the companies don't appear to try. I seriously doubt we'll hear about that clown being arrested.

There's loads of videos on youtube on how to hack Vegas. There is no way of reporting it.

I have informed Sony of some videos. I hope they can sort it. There's loads of comments saying things like "Thanks mate saved me $500". It p**ses me off that people will not supoort excellent value software. They will probably never use the high-end features anyway.

Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Another issue I have is concerning the BH photo version, it was pointed out to me that although it does not have 5.1 encoding as well as architech, if you purchased the same dumbed down version from previous vegas versions , say 6 or 7 you can purchase the upgrade version of vegas 8 and it will then give you architech as well as 5.1 encoding wihout it being present...I thought it only applied to FULL previous 6 and 7 versions of vegas...I like the fact that we can upgrade using the upgrade option saving us some money , but we at least went the extra mile and payed for the FULL version at least once, if what I hear is true they are not , and reaping all the rewards...hope I heard wrong.....because if people buy the Vegas 8 lite version and then when 9 is released buy the upgrade allowing them to get architech and 5.1 encoding they never had for free, its just not right.....you have to pay before you can play....

"There's loads of videos on youtube on how to hack Vegas. There is no way of reporting it."

There will always be cheaters. That's one of the reasons Sony keeps the mpeg and ac3 encoders locked up so tight. According to some it's not all that hard to crack Vegas, but then ask these "crackerJacks" if they can encode mpeg and ac3.

These idiots stick out like a sore thumb. If you go onto places like HV20.com or similar, there are always questions like; "how come I can't render as mpeg?"

Answer: You've either got the trial or a hacked version. The odd one admits to a trial but most of them just slither away with no further comment.

I have to admit, it upsets me to that I paid for a full version and others get some cheap upgrade : ) I know it's petty of me. On the other hand if it will cause Vegas to grow then I won't complain.

It seems like sony should have a usb dongle key like Cubase. It's a great copy protection system.

some people might complain but once you get it and you register the key to yourself then it unlocks and it will not run w/o the usb key.

on the other hand theres probably some pirate usb key that works with cubase as well....

Upgrades and adding new customers is nice, within reason...I just feel that if you buy a dumbed down version of Vegas you are not entitled to the same enhancements down the road that others have payed premium for...that in my opinion is not petty, just the right thing to do...I bought vegas as a long term investment knowing that if I pay full price now for the FULL edition I can save money down the road on the upgrade versions as a reward for supporting Vegas , that should not apply to those who do not make the same commitment in buying the Lite Edition....once again it goes back to doing what is right...of course I could have heard wrong, so if anyone knows if this is true or not please chime in.......Please note I am in no way trashing those who will buy the lite edition, I just want them to understand there should be limits when the upgrade versions become available....

B&H lacks DVDA which is where the AC-3 encoder lives. I bit the bullet and bought the full Vegas 8.0b upgrade from Movie Studio. I am very happy with it.
