Choosing rendering options for projects with stills + DV video

I'm creating a project in VMSP 17 which combines still photos and a video clip from an old DV camcorder. The video clip is 720x480x24 at 29.97 fps, interlaced, with a pixel aspect ratio of .9091 (I think this is all standard for NTSC DV).

I have set the project to match the clip, with one exception: I changed the field order to progressive. (Is that a good idea?)

When rendering, there is no preset that matches these parameters, so I modified the preset "Internet HD 720p 29.97 fps" to be 720x480p. Should I leave the pixel aspect ratio at 1.0 or change it to .9091?

As for format, I chose "MAGIX AVC/AAC MP4".

Please let me know if these seem like good choices, or if you would suggest any changes.

Thanks!

PS - I should mention that the intended use of the rendered video is to be played from a laptop to a TV or projector via HDMI.

In your project which source material is in the majority? Your DV material or stills?

I'd probably render using "Internet HD 720p 29.97 fps" without any changes and let VMS upscale and deinterlace the DV source. You should also consider using "Internet HD 720p 59.94 fps" if your DV has much movement as that is its effective framerate after deinterlacing. Using 29.97 may give movement.that isn't smooth, but then you might find it acceptable.

Thanks for the suggestions, @EricLNZ. More of the total time is spent on the stills, but they're reasonably high resolution, so I'm assuming they can be adapted to whatever resolution and frame rate makes sense for the video. Because the video is only DV quality, I want to present is as well as possible. I like your idea of using 59.94 fps. Hopefully the upscaling to 720p works well - I'll try both alternatives.

Is the mismatch of pixel aspect ratio likely to cause problems?

It shouldn't. Just don't fiddle with it. VMS will apply the 0.9091 PAR to your source DV (if that's what its properties show) when decoding to give a square pixel image. It will then apply what is requested when rendering which with your template is a square pixel image.
