Choppy sound when capturing with Vegas Studio

Just got Vegas Movie Studio + DVD (v6) and have a problem capturing loud sounds as the capture cuts the sound streams with a choppy sound as a result. Soft sounds like inside a room and only a person talking capture just fine, while others like the wind at the beach turn out all choppy.

After capturing the clip and importing into the project the sound continues to be choppy. Even looking at the clip in WMP gives you the choopy sound.

Here is something to consider. If I use the Windows Movie Maker, the sound loud or soft captures just fine.

I have talked to Sony Media Software Support and have gone through a series of tries all of them with no success. Perhaps you guys can provide some ideas of what to do to remedy this problem. Any suggestion, no matter how off it may be, will be greatly appreciated.

The computer is a 2.8MHz 2.38GB RAM with 300 + GB SATA drives, SoundMax integrated card, connect the Video camera via DV (1394 IEEE)

Many thanks.
