I downloaded the trail version of Vegas Post Suite .. got Vegas Effects running and did a chroma key. Exported the result but can't figure out how to use it from here in VP18 .. ?? The background is black but tracks below do not show through ..I'm doing something wrong.

You must export as Alpha, RGB+A uncompressed.
Then in VEGAS Pro the media contain Alpha channel you need to right click and click properties and select Alpha unmatte straight to reveal the transparency.
I'd recommend to add the background within Vegas Effects not in Vegas Pro else you'd drop some great tools to enhance the keying like "Light Wrap" (to be found in the "Matte Enhancement" folder).
Thanks guys .. Vegas Effects looks very powerful but complicated. It seems to be a standalone program and not like using a plugin. I was looking for a plugin for VP18 that would do a better job on chroma key.
This is going to take some time. I found a beginners tutorial. I'll start there.
Vegas Effects is a stand-alone software. It's more or less the same as HitFilm Pro.
If your looking for a chroma key FX as plug-in, then Ignite Pro does offer same Chroma Key FX as it is in Vegas Effects/HitFilm Pro.
Also NewBlueFX offers a good chroma keyer plug-in called "Chroma Key Pro".
Another good chroma keyer ("Primatte Studio") is offered by Boris FX within its "Key and Blend" unit. I think it's also offered separately from the unit.
As I mentioned in a previous post, the nice guy at Scrapyard Films has a way to get the NewBlue Chroma Key Pro plugin working in Vegas for free and legally. He describes how here:
It does offer a good set of tweaking controls for getting a clean key.

Funny cause that's exactly the two programs I use constantly. The Boris chroma key and Ignite's chroma key are gems of great beauty. I bought the Suite because of the added Vegas chroma key but my simple mind found it too complicated and it gave me a migraine.
FWIW, I started using Vegas' own Chroma Keyer a couple years ago (in VP17). Upgraded to VP18, the Chroma Keyer was the same...not very good (but VERY easy to use...and not CPU intensive). Like Vdanny mentioned, you can follow ScrapYard Film's method of getting NewBlue's Chroma Key Pro for free which is considerably better than Vegas' native Chroma Keyer. I used it for about a year and then discovered Boris' Chroma Key Suite and Primatte Studio. I've never used Vegas Effects, but I can't imagine their native chroma keyer being better than Primatte.
For your consideration Xberk, the better the chroma key plugin, the more CPU intensive it will be to use. Vegas' native chroma keyer is the lightest and easiest (and if you have a perfect green screen clip, it will work just fine), NewBlue's takes about 10-20% more CPU power (and slows playback down by 10-20% on the timeline). Boris' chroma keyer (especially when run properly (Compositing Mode-->Custon-->etc) will take a chunk out of your RAM and CPU, but it is the highest quality chroma key I've used thus far.
