chromaKeySkeleton.veg

liner notes and use .

Track 1 :
encapsulates the whole project .
Parent Track Motion moves everything .

Track 2 :
holds FX chain of  5  Secondary color corrections .
use None , 1 or all 5 .  This is typically
the last step . Eye drop a fringe color
to de-saturate , or to remove , or to re-color .
track 2 also allows  Parent Track Motion to
move just the  cut ,..background track 8 does not move .

Track 3 :
holds "chroma key 3" as  Post-Composite with "show mask"
using  "Parent Multiply" to be received by track 7 .
select a darker area of the screen with chroma key 3 .

Track 4 :
replace me with source media

chroma key 1 ( as  Pre-Composite , with "show mask" )
Zoom to select screen color near the object perimeter .

chroma key 2 ( as Post-Composite , with "show mask" )
select bright screen area ( the normal screen color to eye drop )

Track 5 :
replace me with  source media

this track receives
"Track Multiply" from track 4 ( chroma key 1 )

if Guassian Blur is going to be used , use it on Track 5 ,
use very little , as it will dig into the object perimeter .
maybe about  0.0040  or  less .

Track 6:
replace me with source media

this track receives
"Parent Multiply" from track 4 ( chroma key 2 )

Track 7 :
replace me with source media

This track receives
Parent Multiply from track 3 ( chroma key 3 )

Track 8:
background media

skeleton.veg  uses a cascade of Three  Chroma key FX .
Each chroma key is followed by a Mask Generator .
Track 5 holds  Guassian Blur
didn't have any success using  Unsharp mask and Sharping , didn't use them .

Philosophy :
if regular chorma key by itself works , then done .
if cut is ok , but colors are offset , then try Skeleton.veg .

Chroma key 1 , heavily zoom in and pic a screen color as close as possible to the object perimeter .
Chorma key 2 , pic the normal background color .
Chroma key 3 , if the screen is not uniformly lit , pic a darker area .'
pic-wise  parametric approach .
Not all 3 chroma keys need be used .  Mute the un-used receiving tracks , turn OFF  Multiply blend mode ,
turn OFF the chroma key and FX chain that isn't being used .

The above provides more advanced controls :
perfect color retention of the cut occurs , because only  Masks are being Multiplied with .
Multiply blend mode causes screen fringe color at the object perimeter ,
which must be dealt with . Secondary Color correction , FX chain can help reduce the fringe color .
Guassian blur can help smooth\reduce and slightly cut the edge , of the fringe color .
Mask Generators help to get a hard Black and White Mask , after chroma key is used .

As i have seen , Chroma key by itself can cut really good . It is the  offset colors that cause all this .

i tested it on rainbow hair image .  the approach seems to have some validity and merit .
not test with video cutting .

extensive , but then , the list of controls in other programs is extensive too .

pet name for this is :  "Triple Lutz  Flip-a-de-Flop"
as i found out how to cascade 3 chroma keys .
