I have not done chromakey in Vegas since Vegas 5 and have been almost completely away from Vegas for some time. Now restarting with Vegas 12 while we wait on Vegas 13 to arrive next week.
The technique I used was described in an article by Keith Kolbo. That article is here...
http://www.digitalproducer.com/article/Chroma-Keying-DV-in-Sonys-Vegas-31596
With your green screen clip on the Vegas time line and no background on a lower timeline yet... (so the chromakeyed result should be the subject on a black background)
Issue 1:
Keith suggest taking the chromakey color picker and instead of just clicking on the green background to draw a box around an area of the green screen background... That worked in Vegas 5 but now in Vegas 12 you see no "box" when you hold down the left button on the mouse and drag it over an area of the green background. Is this normal in Vegas 12?
(My assumption on this technique is dragging the box gives Vegas sort of a color average which would to some degree compensate for an unevenly lite green screen.)
Issue 2:
- He then suggest you check the "mask only" box
- Then adjust the "high threshold" until the subject is complete white
- Then adjust the "low threshold" until the background is completely black
- But when I do that the subject has a blue halo around them and I have been unable to get it to go away. Still there when I render to.
BTW, the image I'm using is one that chromakeyed perfectly in Vegas 5... where I never remember seeing a blue halo around the talent.
I've played with the adding the Chroma Blur fx before the Chromakey fx and also played with adding some mask blur after adjusting the high and low threasholds.
So, why the blue halo?
Finally, the chromakey tool has obviously changed from Vegas 5 to Vegas 12... where would I find the best tutorial on what works now? I've Googled and looked at some Youtube tutorials but none of them have the blue halo issue.
Thanks for any help.
