chromakey semi-transparent

When I use chroma key, my subject becomes semi-transparent. I have experimented with it several times and asked pros for ideas why my subject was always semi-transparent. They suggested lighting tips. I am using two 500W tota lights and a chroma green roll of paper 4'X20'. It seems no matter what settings I have for Fstop or shutter speed, the subject is ALWAYS semi-transparent. I have looked at websites that offer tutorials, and their subject always looks exactly like I would expect.

Any ideas?

I'm using Vegas 7.0

In the CC FX tick the box that says Show Mask Only. The mask should be black and white only. If it isn't try adjusting the settings, I think the on line help and / or manual covers this pretty well. If not I'd be pretty certain there's a good tutorial on the VASST site.

When I work with chromakey I first apply the Color Corrector (Secondary) FX and choose the Saturate Greens preset, then following this fx in the chain is the Chroma Blur FX (which you may or may not need but is good to experiment with), and finally add the Chroma Keyer FX.

Farss is correct that you really need to check the Show Mask Only which will help you to fine tune and adjust the Low and High Thresholds to make sure your subject is not transparent.

Now, something else to work with is before you apply the Chroma Keyer fx, is to work with the settings in the Color Corrector (Secondary) which also has a Show Mask and Invert Mask. Try using these as well to help you fine tune how you are saturating the greens, because it will allow you to also see your non-green subject and if they are still somewhat transparent. I think you can get your video in a much more keyable state with this Secondary CC which makes the Chroma Keyer fx work all the better.
