CINEFORM and VEGAS PRO9 and 64bit

SONY,

Yetsrday I purchased Pro 9 - assuming of course that it would be better than Pro 8. And assuming that what worked in Pro 8 would work in Pro 9 as well.

But..... This wasn't the case:

I now want the following to work in Pro 9 Vista 64 within a month:

- I want my CineFORM files to play in Vegas Pro 9 in Vista 64bit
- I want my CineSCORE to work in Pro 9 in Vista 64bit

I bought a new PC with RAID-0 10000 rm drives and Vista 64 bit and 8 GB to run Vegas 8.1 in. Only to find out Cinescore didn't work in Pro 8 64 bit! Isn't that REALLY bad?

I purchased Vegas Pro 9 and all of a sudden my entire archive of Cineform footage is useless! :( What played back at 30 fps flawlessly now plays back at 5 fps. :( Isn't that really bad too?

I purchased Cinescore (great product!) and assumed it would work in Vista 64 Pro 9. But no... Sony has had years to fix this haven't they?

The situation is incrediblay frustrating!

SONY:

Work together with Cineform 24/7 until you have got this stuff working properly. This can't be so difficult.

Cineform are doing some great work! Make use of the amazing competence they have. It helps video producers / editors like me to do a better job. Call Cineform right now and start to worl with them!

And get that Cinescore product to work all the way so that a user can use ONE VERSION of your application - in my case the 64 bit version of of Pro 9.

It really is ridiculous to have to jump between different versions and OSs when working.

If I want to use the 64 bit version and enjoy better performance why should I jump down to a 32 bit version just to add music from a product that YOU youreslf has manufactured???

And why all of a sudden is the Cineform codec performance broken???

This should be part of the basic beta testing?!?

Cineform is a major achievment and and a manufacturer of editing software (SONY) for high definition formats such as 1920x1080 ought to be 100% aware of the performance aspects here!

Really, the situation is so bad that an update / patch needs to be available really very very soon. Within one month I'd say.

I'm seriously evaluating my situation here and looking around for alternatives - I need to be able to work in an efficient way with the software purchased from Sony,.

I am extremely surprised that finally after this long time, a 64 bit Vegas Pro 9:

Can't work with its own Cinescore product. (!!!)
Can't play the best codec there is, Cineform 4.8.X

Sony Vegas Pro 9, playing back uncompressed AVI is indeed better than previous versions. And it looks like it has many other nice features too. But things need to work from A-Z and essential things can't be broken!

1.
Cineforms codec is absolutely great and enables me to actually use 1920x1080 files from the Canon 5D2.

2.
In Vegas Pro 9 my entire archive of Cineform coded AVI files don't work any more. This is extrenmely frustrating. I purchased Pro 9 yesterday only to find out that my entire footage library is useless!!! A couple of TBs that Pro 9 now simply can't play!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, Sony - when is the Pro 9 update coming that will give me Cineform working in Pro 9, 64 bit and Cinescore working in Pro 9 64.

I think my patience will run out in about 1-2 months and I'll move over from PC to MAC.

I had hoped this wouldn't happen but as things look now I'm not happy with the situation!!!

Best,
Lars

I opened my Neo Scene files in Vp9 just this morning and the play back was a little less, but not enough to make me rant. I'm sure Cineform will release an update to address the issues between it and VP9 in due time.

Early adopters always seem to complain - if you feel the need to move to a MAC, no one's stopping you.

We currently don't have a release for a 64-bit codec, required by Vegas 8.1 and 9 64-bit -- this will come shortly. The 32-bit components do work in the 32-bit Vegas 9, however there is a performance hit when using the Half or Quater res modes (or the auto mode), full preview is working fine. A bug report has been sent to the Vegas team.

I must be the odd man out - I'm not having any issues so far with CIneform Neo Scene rendering or playback at any rez - this is on Vista Ultimate 64 bit with 32 bit VP9.

Great news. The Cineform codec is superb and enables me to get my 5D2 1920x1080 footage to work in Vegas after I've been converting it.

I truly look forward to the 64 bit version of your codec and look forward to when Sony has adressed the bug in the 32 bit versions...

Thanks for your great work and hope Sony will do a good job making sure Cineform will run fine in Pro 9 both 32 and 64 bit.

Thanks for your quick reply David!

Setting Preview to "Full" does indeed improve frame rate. But it only gets "acceptable" if just playing a clip. When there are clips in a project and dissolves and text etc it all goes down to 12-14 fps and is really shaky and is unustable.

So Preview and Full is not a workaround that really functions for my daily professional work. I'm forced to stay with Pro 8.0c until this bug is fixed.

As mentioned already it will be good when this bug is fixed. Pro 9 is useless for me right now, even including the Preview / Full setting.

'm saying this so that no one at Sony thinks this workaround is a good motivation not to fix the bug a.s.a.p... ;)

Can't wait to see the Cineform codec working with Pro 9 and Vista 64 ! Hope that'll happen real soon!

Lars
