I am using the Cineform codec to render out complex composite projects for HDV intermediates in a networked render farm - one workstation setup rendering on XPPro3 32bit with VegasPro 8.0b and another workstation rendering on Win7Pro1 32bit with VegasPro 9.0e. My Cineform coders were purchased about a year apart with the newest install on the VegasPro 9.0e. They both read as Cineform Codec Version 6 with the newest simply retitled GoPro Cineform codec reflecting the rebranding going on at Cineform.
When I examine the intermediate .avi files after render by using the media properties inspector of SonyVegasPro - the XPPro3 file reports 32bit depth. However the Win7Pro1 -from same .veg project file reports 24bit depth.
Since you can not set bit depth with the Cineform encoder, I ask where is the difference in file type coming from?? I had thought that what this is reporting - is the value that VegasPro software preview window is set to-i.e., actually the result of the operating system video card display. However both workstations are set with video card to 32bit depth display and Vegas preview windows on both systems report same.
Does anyone know an answer to this puzzle? Keep in mind that I am aware that a 32bit purpose for uncompressed .avi is to maintain an alpha channel. What is the purpose within the scenario I have just described above?
