When you say "vanishing", I guess you mean going black. The files haven't vanished, the video just not being displayed.

This has been an ongoing problem that became worse with Vegas 10 and has not been resolved as of V11 521. As you are scrolling across the timeline you eventually encounter a clip that is still present, but black.... If you save & reload Vegas, the clip reappears.

Even if 3rd party clips show-up correctly on the timeline, they will occasionally render to black. I have had this problem with Blackmagic Decklink M-JPEG codecs as well as the Cineform codec. It was very, very rare in 8c but became an every day occurance when using 10e.

This is why a few of us still use 8c for major projects. I actually keep 8c on a separate boot drive with no other programs or Vegas editions. I can edit all day & render 24/7 without a single problem. However, 8c is only 32 bit and only uses 50% of the CPU during renders, so projects take 2X as long to render-out...

I have Vegas 11 on the same system - also on an isolated boot drive. (System multi-boots between (4) SSDs...) This week I completed my first paid project using Vegas 11 from start to finish. Using Blackmagic M-JPEG codecs (no Cineform on this project) I will get at least one crash an hour and footage disappears or renders to black. I was able to complete the project by rendering-out smaller sections and then combining them to make a whole. It added about 20% labor-time to my project versus using 8c from start to finish.

I would stay in 8c but I need to use some newer 3rd party FX for certain projects and it would be nice to be able to use V11 from start to finish. There is also a major flaw with V11 save to tape feature making it unuseable for clients who prefer a tape backup. I waited a whole 5 months to test-out V11 on a paid project and found 2 major, major flaws that make it totally unuseable...

I've been editing with Vegas for 10 years and can fly through projects that would take 2X to 3X the labor using FCP or PP. I have learned to tolerate a few flaws for the sake of convenience. However, Vegas 10 & 11 have just about pushed me over the edge. Fool me once, shame on you... Fool me twice, shame on me... I'm starting to feel foolish for remaining this loyal to a broken product...

Yeah black it is. Thought I was seeing a magic show so I posted vanishing lol. I remeber trying the fix that I beive his name was David had avaliable from Cineform but it did nothing here. Hmmm.
NickHope wrote on 2/24/2012, 11:56 PM
Clips go black. Restart Vegas before doing a render.

It is for this reason, along with the replaced footage bug that I will be going from 10.0e back to 8.0c for my future HDV projects.
David Newman wrote on 2/25/2012, 12:57 AM
No need to run custom patches, all the current released software: NeoScene 5.6.2 and CineForm Studio Premium/Professional 1.1.2, along with the latest Vegas should not have this problem. Close all your apps, uninstall old CineForm tools, install the latest CineForm and Vegas conponents.
NickHope wrote on 2/25/2012, 1:33 AM
David, did GoPro CineForm Studio get updated yet with the new decoder you described here?
David Newman wrote on 2/25/2012, 10:05 AM
Yes it did. The free version should notify you of the update, Studio Premium or Pro will need to be download again (the new version with notify you on updates like the base Studio.) Version 1.1.2.100 across the line has all the latest decoders.

I must be doing something wrong.

Here's what I see when I click the Cineform Icon on Systray (clicking the "Check Now" button does nothing):

Here's what I see if I go to the GoPro/Cineform download location:

As you can see, it's the some version as the one I downloaded last October:

I got the same the other day Jerry, which is what prompted me to ask the question, since I remembered David's post regarding a forthcoming update. Can't get on the gopro site at all right now.

Edit: I'm pretty keen on using this as intermediates for my 2-hour project, a) in the hope that I'll have less chance of black frames/clips, and b) because I think I'm going to run out of disk space for Lagarith or UT.
WillemT wrote on 2/25/2012, 1:24 PM
Jerry, exactly the same here.

Willem.

I am having the same problem with black clips using the free GoPro CineForm Studio. There does not seem to be a new update as Dan suggests. Very frustrating.
David Newman wrote on 2/26/2012, 4:16 PM
All data shows the black frame issue are solved, but you must run the latest Vegas 11 and lastest CineForm decoders (at least v7.6.2 of the decoder -- which ships with NeoScene 5.6.2 and CineForm Studio ??? 1.1.2.) There was a fault, and it has been clearly fixed, we haven't looped demanding sequences that failed in minutes for days. You may need a reboot between the install of the new components -- something an application hang on the old decoder, preventing a clean update (rare.) The components from CineForm that must at least v5.6.2 are

C:\Program Files (x86)\CineForm\Tools\CFHDDecoder.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\CineForm\Tools\CFHDDecoder64.dll

Right click on these are select properties to see the version under Details.

Okay, I've got the old version - where do I go to get the new one?

Yes, as Jerry says where can we download the new version of GoPro Cineform Studio? I have the old version and can not find the new version, there are no new updates shown.

Thanks,
Paul.

The new version is report in the 'C' icon in the system tray. Seems the version via gopro.com is still pointing to the previous release -- install that and see the update is the system tray.

I don't understand why your PC is not seeing the version server.

Here is the direct link for the free CineForm Studio
http://software.gopro.com/PC/GoProCineFormStudioPC-1.1.2.100.zip
david-ruby wrote on 2/26/2012, 6:45 PM
I have these listed as 7.6.2 as described but still have the files go black on line. Any clues?
d
david-ruby wrote on 2/26/2012, 6:48 PM
My neoscene I see is 5.5.4. I should update this as well?
d
David Newman wrote on 2/26/2012, 6:52 PM
NeoScene 5.6.2 is required. It is a free update. Direct link : http://software.gopro.com/PC/NeoScenev562b340-120131.zip

If black persists after upgrading have Jake in CineForm support do a remote login and he willl determine what components aren't updating correctly.
VanLazarus wrote on 2/26/2012, 7:27 PM
I just installed NeoScene 5.6.2 (the link you just gave above) and I'm still getting black Cineform frames. :(
David Newman wrote on 2/27/2012, 1:17 AM
Contact support for a remote session tomorrow as that should not be happening.
Serena wrote on 2/27/2012, 5:35 PM
David, when will your website technical error be fixed? Downloads. Says that tech has been automatically notified of the problem, but still happening.

"Notice

An unexpected error has occurred. Technical Support has been alerted to this problem."
David Newman wrote on 2/27/2012, 9:37 PM
I wasn't aware, so I reported it now. Always send this type of enquiry directly to support@cineform.com , this forum doesn't give notifications so I may never see some posts intended for me.
