CineForm mts to avi

I have a Cannon HG10 and have copied the mts files to my PC (i7 w 8GB Ram). Understand enough to know I need to convert mts to avi then import the avi into Vegas Movie Studio (Platinum 9) timeline. When I do this I get no audio. I have purchased other AVCHD to AVI converters and have been disappointed. Understand CineForm is recommended so I'm trying their trial version before purchasing another software program (is that the problem?).

Assuming 1920x1080, your computer is reasonably fast enough to support native editing of the HG10 AVCHD files. Listen to Eugenia, but I think that you would only need to go to an intermediate codec if you were looking to improve your cpu editing speed.

I tried using mts format to import to VMS Platinum 9 but the output was not smooth and would "crash" when "Making Movie". Listening to Eugenia I understood I should use CineForm to convert to avi format. Don't believe CPU speed is an issue. Does Cineform not create the audio portion when rendering from mts to avi?
I'm a novice to this area so please excuse me if I don't understand all the video/audio lingo.

The output was not smooth or the preview was not smooth? If it was the preview, suggest to try "preview(auto)". Regarding the crash for "make movie", what codec/what type of movie were you trying to make?

Before you go the Cineform route, you should be sure that you really need to.

Cineform should provide you with the audio for your movie as well.

Found the problem - the AC3 audio decoder hadn't been installed. It is working fine now. I'm converting from mts to avi before placing on the timeline. For output I'm rendering as WMV.
Thanks for all your help.
