As I look at my options with my current equipment (which I really can't afford to replace), I find myself once again considering shooting in CF30 on HVR-A1 and capturing and editing as 1280x720x30p?
Why? Because my current setup (3.06 P4 with external firewire drives for projects) would handle it beautifully. My system isn't fast enough for either 1080 60i in either Cineform or m2t formats, so I end up stuck with lengthly proxy and final Cineform master renders that seem to just take forever. With 720 30p Cineform files, I could check the Vegas smart-render tab and have very little rendering time: just transitions and filters going to the final Cineform masters. I'd still have to wait for SD DVD renders, but even that wouldn't take nearly as long, and the final DVDs would look great.
Negatives? I'd have to watch out for fast pans and zooms. I use a Spiderbrace on handheld stuff and my camera work is pretty steady. People with 60" 1080i TVs might notice a little difference (that is someday when I can actually deliver HD on a disk), but even that (IMO) would be minimal.
What do you guys think? I have no expectations of ever going to film and I don't expect any PAL broadcast either. Should I do it?
