Cinematic 4K: 2.35:1 (avoid cropping each and every clip)

Ref: Cinematic 4K: 2.35:1

Hi there,

Hoping I can have your opinion. I wanted to make some 4K footage I had into a Cinematic format (2.25:1) - rendered (not with black bars). I know the general preferred method is to set the project properties to 3840x1634 and then set the same for each clips CROP properties. This is a nightmare because of the 100s of clips.

Can you see anything wrong what seems to be an easier way to achieve the same thing by just adjusting the whole tracks motion?

I am missing something or some how losing pixels etc?

So as before I set Project Properties set to 3840x1634

Then set Track Motion Size is adjusted to: 5076 x2160

Let me know your opinion on this (know theres a way to crop every track in one go aswell but this seemed easier).

Kind Regards

Jen

Since you're probably going to end up rendering to a UHD 16x9 template, anyway. There's no earthly reason not to do so for most of us mortals. I'd just create a transparent mask with a black background and 2.35:1 transparent cutout. Place it on the top track above your whole timeline and move on with your life.

Moral: Most displays on the planet are ~16:9.

Just to add to john_dennis' comment above, Vashi Visuals has a package of free widescreen templates that can be placed on the top video track of the timeline. They are .png files so will work in Vegas Pro.

NewBlueFX's Essentials 5 Volume 2 has an included plugin called Aspect Ratio:

https://newbluefx.com/products/essentials/volume-2/

This can be added as a Project FX (the fx icon above the preview window) which will then be applied to the entire project. There is a choice of some 3 dozen presets but custom aspects ratios can also be manually set.

Shouldn't this work?

Crop the first clip, select it and copy.

Select all the other clips, paste attributes.

Or use the CROP effect on the final output EFFX.

+1 Just a few clicks. First clip, pan crop tool, match output aspect ratio and copy this event attribute to all other events.

Rendering with Voukoder, no need to make an extra rendertemplate and result is without black borders.
