Closed Captions CEA-608 to CEA-708

I'm trying to change the caption type from CEA-608 to CEA-708...yet there is no 708 option in the drop down list.

The link below said you can pick either option, yet I only see the 608 option.

Anyone know how to change that? I need to send some ads up to Canada...and they require 708-B

using v 11/12

I believe the CEA-708 is encoded in the stream of video codecs that support it. You don't have to do anything other than enter them in as the CDA-608. You might want to find some software that will allow you to verify that the captions are there.

I can verify the CC are there after the encoding...just not the required 708 spec. The link in my OP notes that 708 is possible in Vegas.

So are you saying the right codec will inherently include 708?

The codec I will be using will be XDCam/HDCam 422.
Also DNxHD is an option.

This is the problem in Vegas. In Brazil, TV Globo requires closed caption 608 and 708 in the same CC. I still can not see CEA 708 in Vegas. It appears in the manual but does not appear in the program, even when I do the procedures as they guide. TV Globo refuses all commercial calls. Total loss with Vegas 14 so far.

Thanks Joaoluiz. Well I hope that will actually be added to Vegas.

Good Morning. I received a reply from Magix stating that the problem of option 708 in the closed caption of Vegas would be resolved with Vegas 15. And that would also resolve in Vegas 14. However, it was not resolved. Anyone know any more information on the subject? I've been using Adobe's Premiere, and I plan to switch definitely soon, despite having purchased Vegas 14 and have never had a problem with Vegas. It is unfortunate that Magix does not have competent professionals to solve the problem of Closed Caption 708, service 1.

But... not yet... Magix isn't listening this question, CC CEA 708. Very disappointed!

Does anyone know if Magix will correct the problem of the CEA 708 option in the closed caption, in the new version VEGAS PRO 16?

I created a test file in Vegas 16 and exported an MXF file, then opened it in Adobe Premiere and as you can see, the 708 track still contains garbage....

Yep, its a non working feature in Vegas. About the time we get 708 captions there might be a new standard.

It really is very sad to know that MAGIX does not mind offering the CEA 708 caption. They promised me they would have the solution on Vegas PRO 15, and did not even comply with the VGEAS PRO 16. I refuse to buy the updates until they offer closed caption CEA 708.

I'm not sure if this is a useful solution for anyone, but I've been able to use this software ($900) to take an SCC from Vegas, and generate an MXF with 608 and 708 captions:

I do also utilize this free software to re-wrap the individual essences (video/audio/CC) into a more compatible MXF:

https://sourceforge.net/p/bmxlib/home/Home/

It's a little more work/cost, but it does the job.
