closest fottage to a AJ-HDC27H

I will be shooting a documentry with the panasonic AJ-HDC27H. Because of camera costs, i will be sending b-roll camera operators out in the field with much cheaper camera's. My question is this, which $10,000 dollar camera will be the closest match to quality when converted to full HD and film.

thanks

There are only two 720p cameras on the market in that price range, the JVC and the HVX. The HVX uses the same format as the VariCam, and should offer the same basic "look" (i.e., there's a "Sony Look", a "Canon Look"...) I'd expect the HVX to be by far the closest match.

Thanks,
Asked a few other professionals around and the HVX will be the way to go for us. Now just hope firestore has a drive ready before we atart shooting. Those P2 cards can be cost prohibitive

The show "Full Ride" airs on ESPN used a Varicam and the Sony Z1. The footage intercuts really well after color correction (discreet smoke).

The Z1 was shot 60i and converted to 24p (DV Film I think). The workflow in Final Cut Pro was terrible- if you have to use FCP, the HVX definitely offers advantages. The Z1 used a 35mm adapter.

The main camera op for the show (who owns the varicam and the 2 Z1s and 35mm adapters) planned on using the HVXs for the b-roll cameras, but obviously they weren't out yet.

Sadly we wont be able to use Vegas on this project. We will let the editor decide which tools he wants to use (avid) but more importantly we will be outputing to film, and vegas isnt built for that yet (hopefully in the future)
