In the past I used Edit systems with both the Targa 2000 and 3000 video boards. I sometimes copy these avi files over to my edit system and get varying degrees of success when importing.
Usually the clips will sluggishly play in Vegas but the video quality looks a little soft to me. Many times the clip imports into Vegas but shows up as a red frame in Vegas 8 or 9. I have downloaded software codecs for the T2000 and T3000 and installed them on my system but I don't know if those codecs are being accessed or not when playing back the avis in Vegas.
Here are my questions:
How can I find out for sure what codec Vegas is using to playback the video files?
How can I get the best quality playback in Vegas of those avis without transcoding?
If transcoding is a must, what is the best option for maintaining original quality?
