hi, i'm thinking of buying Vegas Video 3.0, but a friend of main told me that i'm not able to edit diveX 5.0.2 compressed files with vegas video, and he added that vegas video does not compress files, and just renders them as an AVI uncompressed (same with audio, no compression)... i just wanted to know before buying vegas video, is my friend right?

Zoraak,

Vegas Video 3.0 does not offer support for Divx files at this time. While you may be able to edit those files in the program, doing so is an "on your own" proposition. You may want to download the demo version of the program from this link and see if the program suits your needs.

Vegas can compress your projects into a variety of formats depending on what you choose. If you want, you can compress your files to any of the following formats: AVI (with different types of compression or uncompressed), QuickTime, MPEG-1/2, RealVideo, or WMV. Again, download the demo version and go into the Custom options for the various Render As formats. You'll see that there are many different options available for outputting the video (and audio of course).

Happy Holidays,
Brian

Zoorak,

I'm able to render to Divx 5.02 just fine from VV 3.0c, but can't import or edit them. As noted above, VV does export to any number of formats, and its easy to edit the provided templates and save them as new presets.

For me, this is a relatively small problem, and I highly recommend Vegas.
