Hi.. I'm a novice and I'm using two camcorders to tape a single event. Once I sync them, I know that the color will probably not match between the two clips.
Is there a tutorial, etc. that will show me how to do color correction so the two match as close as possible?
The first thing you do, IF YOU CAN, is mount the camcorders where you want them, set the lighting the way you expect them to be for the big event, and then zoom in on a white-card and manually set white balance.
Now, if in real life all this were possible, you would have a lot less trouble.
Since it is unlikely you can do this, it is a matter of mounting the scenes so that you see exactly the same thing at the same time from different angles on two different tracks in Vegas. Then, place the cursor where you want it and press the "Mute" button on one or the other track so that, in effect, you are switching instantly between two views of exactly the same thing (from different angles).
Now that you can switch back and forth easily and fast, you can go about trying to make them look the same.
Good luck. It ain't easy. But, at least you have the right program for it. Especially if you have Vegas 4.
There are 5 tutorials on color correction on the Sundance site, http://www.sundancemediagroup.com/help/kb including a couple by Billyboy that are outstanding.
Also, you can take a still copy of an eventfrom the first cam, copied to clipboard by pressing the 'copy to clipboard' button in the preview window, then move the cursor to the second camera media. Now press the split screen button in V4, and you can draw a rectangle over any portion of the preview screen so you can see similar shots from 2 cams at the same time. Now use color correction tools to compensate for any differences, and save the changes as a preset so that it can be applied to one or the other camera.
Hint...use the better cam as the still shot, 'fix' the colors of the lesser quality cam/cam shot.
