Color Corrector (Secondary) NOT WORKING!

Remy-Weisbrot wrote on 12/19/2020, 2:15 AM

I used to have Sony Vegas Pro 10, many moons ago. I used to use Color Corrector (secondary) all the time with no problem. I recently purchased Vegas Movie Studio, and Color Corrector (secondary) is not working! I add it to a clip, go to custom, and click the eye dropper next to "select effect range". I used to just click on a color in my preview and it would select any object in that color. Now, when I click a color, nothing happens! If I click "show mask" its all black. I tried dragging the eye dropper over a color instead, but still doesn't work. Once in a while that will result in multiple colors being selected or just white being selected. I never had a problem with this in Sony Vegas Pro.. How do I fix it?! Of course VEGAS has no customer support so I am relying on someone to please answer me here!!!!

@Remy-Weisbrot To be able to repro your problem, we need to know which version number of Movie Studio you purchased, and is it the Platinum version or the basic version?

@Remy-Weisbrot I haven't much experience with this plug-in, but I've just had a play with it and it seems to be doing what it's supposed to do.
To check it out definitively, place a VEGAS Test Pattern media event on the timeline and apply the effect to it.
Select Custom and click the 'Select effect range' eyedropper.
Select one of the colours with a single click and then select 'Show mask'. The colour will turn white (the mask).
If you select an area of colours, any of these colours will be the mask.
The only thing wrong, as far as I can see, is that selecting a range of colours with the dropper doesn't show you the areas selected. It appears that the dropper isn't doing anything, when it actually has done something, ie, selecting the colour or range of colours.

@Jack S Yes, that is what I was expecting it to do! But it isn't working :( I am attaching a link to a video I have uploaded to youtube so you can see for yourself. Maybe I am doing something wrong?? I appreciate your help so far!!

Here is the video!

@Remy-Weisbrot - I believe I've found the problem. You get the black mask if you simply click on a colour. To get a correct mask, you have to select an area of colour by dragging the dropper across the colour or colours. See below (forgive the shaky mouse movements, my hands aren't as steady as they used to be).

By the way, you can upload a video to your comment with the upload button

EDIT - Having said all that, there's something definitely weird going on here! I've just had another go and it's working exactly as it should do. That is, a single click on a colour selects that colour for the mask. Whereas, as you can see in my video (and as you show in yours) a single click results in a full screen black mask.
I've tried it several times and I can't get it to fail now. I'm intrigued - watch this space!

@Jack S  Yes it’s actually hard to see in my video but after clicking I did a few tries with dragging and still nothing!! And I tried uploading the video straight to here but it was taking too long and I got impatient lol. Idk what to do! I wish I could get in touch with someone at VEGAS to help me. This effect is one of my favorites to use!! And I paid for it so I want to be able to use it. :(. I might try uninstalling and re-installing tonight. I’ll keep you updated. If you think of anything else, let me know!

EDIT - So when I drag to select, lets say, the purple or green, still nothing happens. However, when I drag to select the yellow, it selects the white and partially the black. Weird!

EDIT- Also! I noticed that when you drag and click on just the green, your sliders go to specific places. My sliders go to different places when I drag and click on the green. So, I was curious and dragged all my sliders to match yours, and my green was selected! So I think the dropper is what's not working.

@Jack S I FIXED IT! Actually, my programmer brother did.. It was because the windows scaling was set to 150% and needed to be set to 100%. This is the link to the site he found that explained the problem to him: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/sony-vegas-colour-picker-eye-drop-not-working--115912/

Thanks for your help as well!

@Remy-Weisbrot - Glad you got it sorted. My displays are both set at 100% so I'm not sure why I was getting the dropper working intermittently. Maybe it's something to do with me having 2 monitors?
Anyway, as I said initially, I very rarely use this plug-in so it's something I can live with.

And I tried uploading the video straight to here but it was taking too long and I got impatient lol.
The video upload procedure is a little confusing. It looks as if it's taking ages to upload, but if you click the Comment button, then go back to the section (in this case 'VEGAS MOVIE STUDIO'), then click the post again, you'll find that your movie has uploaded.
It caught me out when I first uploaded a video.
