Color curves sampling preview window?

Is there a way, similar to Photoshop, where you can see what the brightness is at the cursor location in the preview window when using the Color Curves tool? I was recently bringing up the light on a shadowed face and had to mess around a lot to find where to put another point on the curve to hit the right brightness. I've not been able to find anything in the documentation.

Thanks

I don’t use PS. How is Brighness shown there? Is it through a Histogram? We’ve got Histograms in VP.

You can use Just Color Picker. Set the mode to "HSL (255)" to give you the brightness for an 8-bit project.

There are other similar tools available.

What PS does is move a marker along the curve as you move the cursor over the preview thereby showing exactly where new control points can be placed to affect exactly what you want to in the image.

I'll take a look at Just Color Picker. That looks really interesting.

Don't forget that every press of the UP or DOWN arrow on the keyboard equals 1 unit of luminance on a scale of 0-255, so if you want to precisely position an anchor point, you can drag it to the very top or bottom, then hammer your UP/DOWN arrow the required number of times. It's not ideal but it works, and not as slow as it sounds.

Ah-huh, understood. 😌
