Hello Travoski and welcome!

What is the color that you are clicking with the color picker thingy? I created a solid color generated media. I chose the color picker and clicked on a color in the color bar. That worked fine. Then I clicked on the grey area of my screen. That turned the generated media to grey, as I would expect.

You probably already know this . . . you can click on colors in your preview window (or anywhere else for that matter) and the color picker will use that color in your generated media. This is useful for backgrounds in solid media as well as text.

I have 10d but if you just upgraded you may have 10e.

I hope that helps.

Hi Thanx for your reply,
picker thingy is called eyedropper tool i think
when creating a solid color background,i have been trying to pick a color from a video event so the background color matches a color in my my video prior to adding a title,i have used this many times in video studio HD and works no problem but in Vegas pro no luck although i follow the same proceedure.it only seems to change to white or grey even when clicking on blue or red solid colors or i get a message media off line, sometimes i get a duplicate Vegas screen opening behind the screen i am working on but in a much larger format, sorry if my wording or dicription is a bit confusing

Which Media Generator are you using? Some, such as Text have two eye droppers, one for Text Colour and One for Background, and some have maybe 4 different colours which have to be selected before using the eye dropper. May not be the problem, but just check that you are selecting colour for what you want to change.

ok i will start again
i select media generators
select solid color
drag white to timeline
color selection box opens
choose eye dropper tool
box around tool is highlighted and cursor changes to eyedropper
move eyedropper anywhere on screen(acording to help file) and sample a color any color
the solid color background should change to the sampeled color
but it does not change to color sampled changes to either white or grey only
i can open Vegas movie studio HD 10 and follow same procedure and it works no problem
would reinstalling the program maybe help, will i loose the project i am working on or is there a repair function on the disc

Here's a shot-in-the-dark. You haven't added a "Sony Black and White" FX to the Video Track or Preview Screen, have you? I can sorta duplicate what you are seeing by this addition. (i.e. the preview screen will show white or gray after using the eyedropper, but the timeline color thumbnail changes).

Here's something that might help diagnose the problem. What are your RGBA values [b]after[b] your eyedropper click?

Thanx for your reply Jerry
I don't think i have applied black and white fx to track or preview window as i have opened a complete new project and i still cannot pick a color off the screen(same result either grey or white on timeline thumbnail) if i use the mouse and click within the color chooser screen the thumbnail changes to the color i click on but i am trying to pick a color off a video clip the RGB values do change when i click with the eyedropper the alpha channel value remains at 255 ,i have reinstalled the program, downloaded the 10.e update and installed it opened a new project and still get the same results,so this tells me either the software is faulty or i am missing some setting somewhere as i am a beginner with this software it is more than likely me doing something wrong but it is very fustrating because as i have said earlier in this post i still have Vegas Movie Studio 10HD installed and i have no problems doing the same thing in that software it is the same method and it works fine

Trev, I can't repro this one.

1] Solid White on Track 1

2] Place MXF footage on Track 1 just beyond Solid White

3] Open Solid White controls Menu and select C.Picker

4] Move to MXF file and click on a beige colour and the Solid White marries this beige colour.

I've repeated this on several colours within the MXF video file and all are responding correctly.

Grazie

"i asked the wife (she just stared at me so this did not help"First, I'm glad to see that you solved your problem. Display Adapter Drivers can, indeed, turn nasty on you.

Back in a former life, when I was a programmer and had a particularly troublesome logic problem, my favorite technique to solving the issue was to explain the problem to my wife. Of course, she had no idea what I was talking about, but the mere act of explaining it almost always yielded the solution.
