Colors Blotchy on Fades

Hi, I'm trying to do a simple photo presentation with some basic fade-ins, fade-outs, and movement (Ken Burns kind of stuff). I am adding fade-ins and fade-outs to each of the photographs by just using the handles on each event. Everything looks great in the video preview window.

The problem is that when I render these clips, the colors on the photographs when they are fading in or fading out is VERY blotchy. It almost looks posterized or at a reduced bit depth (kind of like if you were to save a photograph as a GIF file with a very reduced color patette).

Once the photos are full strength, they look beautiful, even with the zooming and movement.

I've tried rendering them at the highest quality WMV (3M, 640x480, CBR (Two-Pass), Best Quality, etc.). I also tried rendering as an DV codec AVI file, again using best-quality settings. They both looked pretty much the same.

Any ideas? I'm new to Vegas and editing, but this presentation has to be ready by tomorrow. The photos look so good, I don't want to ruin them like this. But the fades are necessary for the whole feel of the piece.

THANKS!

A couple more pieces of information:

I tried opening a couple sample files on my old computer (Athlon 800 w/ Matrox G400 Vid Card), and they didn't seem to have the same blotchy thing happening on the fades. It didn't play back completely smoothly, but that's probably due to my processor.

So any ideas where to check on my new computer for what's causing this? New computer is HP Laptop w/ 3Ghz, 1GB Ram, and NVidia FX Go5600 video card with 128MB dedicated Ram. I looked in the settings for the video card, but everything seems OK. Both screens are set to 32bit color, all advanced settings are set to maximum quality wherever possible.

I viewed the files on both machines in the latest version of Windows Media Player (v9). When I set the preview in Vegas to full-size, it still looks and plays great.

PLEASE HELP! Thanks again.
