COM object failed to initialize

I copied a show onto a flash drive so that I could edit on my laptop. When I tried to load the program, I got the message "COM object failed to initialize." Also, I could not open a jpeg file and got the message that the file was not in the format that could be opened by Vegas. Any help out there?

Your labtop is not communicating with your flash drive.

It won't recognize jpeg files that are already on the laptop as well.

There are several kinds of jpg files and you might have to get software like "Photoshoshop" or "Adobe Elements" or Painter Pro to change the files to something Vegas can read. jpg is the older standard and they also have jpg2. I have no trouble at all with the jpg file ending.
Vegas can accept the following files:
aaf, cdp, cda, vox, txt, gif, jpg, aif, mpg, mp3, ogg, psd, png, mov, qt, pca, swf, tga, tif, veg, avi, w64, wav, bmp, wma, wmv.
