Combine 4x3 & 16x9 into 16x9 project

I have a tape to edit as a 16x9 project. The first 5 minutes were shot 4x3 in error. To incorperate any footage from first 5 minutes will untail cropping top & bottom which is ok. Are these done as 2 seperate events but that I mean !/. cropping the 4x3 to 16x9 & 2./ then incorperating this rendered footage into the 16x9 project.

Is the video all captured in one go or as 2 seperate files?

It's easier than that. Just set the properties to 16:9 widescreen, go to the clip framing on the 4:3 clips, right click, and select "match output format". Vegas will crop and stretch them correctly. It looks the same as the fake "stretch mode" 16:9 on some Sony and Panasonic cameras.
