Combine Without Rendering?

Can I insert a Vegas project into another without it being rendered into just 1 video tract & left & right audio tracks? IOW, insert it with all it's tracks, effects, etc, available to continue being able to edit what I have added?

Neither Importing Media nor Nesting seem to have that capability--they both render before inserting.

Unfortunately that's just the way Vegas does things.
BTW, it's not rendering when you do that.
It's creating a file similar to an sfk in that it needs to gather all the information to draw the necessary waveforms (even though that information already exists) and save that as a new file.

I think you are asking if you can copy and paste between instances of Vegas -- and yes you can. I do this all the time -- but lately I've prefered using nested veg files. One problem is you cannot copy everything -- like envelopes, track motion etc. or entire tracks. Basically you can copy events and paste them where you please in another instance of Vegas .. I don't have a concise way to tell you what can and can't be copied and the various work-arounds involved to get things to copy. For me, nested veg files work best when building a larger project. I prefer to work in smaller sequences like 4-6 min and assemble nested veg files for the larger project. Remember you can right click on the nested veg to "edit in Vegas" - make changes, save those and they will be reflected in the nested project !

I hope others will share their experience with how to build a larger project out of smaller sequences.

I prefer to have my sub-projects (those that will be nested in the larger project) exactly the way I want them in the final render.

Another way of saying this is, when I find I need to change something in one of the nested projects, I go back to the original .veg, make my edits, and reopen it in the larger project. Hardly any inconvenience, afaiac, because it is re-usable in multiple projects, if I wish.
