Activation completed OK.
Problem solution NEGATIVE. AC3 Pro encoder is still not available in VP11.

If I had known this in advance I would not have upgraded to 14. The main reason I stuck with Vegas was the ability to author 5.1 for DVD and Blu Ray. With the announcement of Resolve 14, Vegas no longer has the edge in audio recording and mixing. I also purchased Magix Music Maker Pro and it screwed up my laptop speakers.

Hi, hope someone could help me.

Unfortunately I bought Vegas Pro 14 to produce the new Videos (5.1 HD on BR) of my son's wedding.

So far I used Vegas Pro 12 w/o any problems.

The outcome of VP14 is from a sound view ok. DVDA7 was rerendering the sound w/o any chnce to stop it, and the outcome of this is that only front and rear speakers were working, but w/o spreadding the surround sound into front and rear, it sounds all the same a kind of sound mash. The center speaker doesn't say anything. So I digged through the internet and finally found this forum. I used the "trick" to change the ac3 plugin, which is working find. But I cound not change the ac3 plugin from DVDA6.0 (Bulid 237) in DVDA7. When starting the BR production, DVDA7 stopped with an error msg.

Usind the original ac3plugin of DVDA7 ends up with the same sound mix as mentioned above.

I just produced a small video of my source material with the old setup,....working fine, w/o rerendering in DVDA.

Since I'm living in Germany, I send a service request to MAGIX, explaining the problem, the answer I got is:

Per management decision the AC3 Pro plug in was removed from the VEGAS Pro and DVD Architect product lines. Those products still use the AC3 Studio plug in.

From my point of view, considering the price of this SW, it is absolutely not understandable to save some royalties for providing a working Dolby plugin.

But hopefully someone could help me with this problem, otherwise I have to setup all the videos again in my old Vegas version.

In the Registry Editor, navigate to the following directory:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Sony Creative Software\Vegas Pro\11.0\License

Right-click the License folder ONLY and select Delete. If prompted, confirm you wish to delete the folder.

Close the Registry Editor.

Launch the program again. You should be prompted to enter your serial number.

Project settings are ok. I'm using vegas for more than 10 years, so basically I know the settings.

If I'm using DVDA7 with the original AC3studioplug.dll (the sound will be rendered again) the result on the burned BR is, that there is no 5.1 sound comming out of the BR-Player/Surround Sound system (verified on 2 separate BR/Surroundsound-Systems). Only a kind of stereo out of front R/L and out of rear R/L, without spreading into front/rear - a real sound mash. No center, no Subwoofer. Based upon the rendered sound with the AC3proplugin in VR14. But it is the same result like using the original AC3studioplugin.dll in VP14. There is no difference looking to the final outcome.

Curious is, that if I'm looking into the burned BR and let the generated m2ts run with the VLC Media Player on my PC, the 5.1 sound is ok - same BR doesn't provide 5.1 sound on a BR-Player..... don't understand this.

When using the DVDA6 (sound will also be rendered again) with the rendered stuff of VP7, it only comes out a kind of buzzer tone - out of all speakers....not really nice to listen......

Using the old VP12 with DVDA6 is woking fine. No rerendering and full 5.1 sound.

If you use AC-3 Pro in Vegas to render, DVDA (6 and 7) won't recompress the audio file.
So, i think something is wrong

Yes I use AC3Pro in Vegas. I just deinstalled DVDA 6&7, cleaned up the regestry and installed it again.

.....same result.... rerendering audio file and sound salad at the end.

Could we please compare the filenames and the filsize?

In DVDA7 the ac3sudioplug.dll has a size of 4,93 MB and is dated 01/27/2017

In DVDA6 the ac3plug.dll has a size of 5,01MB and is dated 08/22/2016

To overcome misunderstanding:

1. Copy the file ac3plug.dll from your C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 13.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\ac3plug
2. Rename it to ac3studioplug.dll
3. Change this file with the ac3studioplug.dll from your C:\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro 14.0\FileIO PlugIns\ac3studioplug.

Not only is Vegas 14 devoid of AC3 Pro, but AC3 Studio 5.1 (surround) files are re-rendered in DVD Architect to Stereo when making Blu-ray discs. This quirk does not apply to DVDs. In other words, it is impossible to make Blu-ray AC3 5.1 audio tracks using V14 and DVD Architect. The re-rendered tracks indicate 5.1 on playback equipment (such as my Yamaha amp) but they are not - the Rear, Center and LFE channels are mute. DVDs play fine in surround.

This is a serious and unadvertised downgrade in V14 which makes it unusable for most of my projects. I have had to revert to V13 to produce Blu-ray masters with 5.1 audio. Even Vegas 8 had the Pro codec.

I was in contact with the support in Germany, tried to explain the situation several times, but only got blabla back.

Sooo... The saga continues ...

We now have updates to both VP14 and DVDA7 and, guess what, "same old same old"!!!

To those that were using the so-called "fix" or "workaround" (copying ac3plug.dll from VP13 to VP14 and renaming to ac3studioplug.dll) an error is now generated thus "An error has occurred while creating the media file filename.ac3. The file could not be opened because some other application already has it open". The only GOOD news is that the file is indeed created and seems to be functional in DVDA7 (but of course it's a concern i.e. I'm not sure if this error actually does mean anything and that there is indeed a problem with the audio file that I'm not aware of at this time).

As for the recent updates: even although APPARENTLY 5.1 Blu-ray audio is rendered correctly using the Dolby Studio encoder the problem STILL exists where the audio is panned to the right when previewing in DVDA7.

I am now royally "pis*ed" i.e. in the end I capitulated and actually bought VP13/DVDA6 over and above VP14/DVDA7 just to resolve this issue so this has now cost a small fortune. For crying out aloud: how much more could it cost MAGIX to simply include the Dolby Pro encoder again??? A few extra $$$??? Given what this stuff costs: if MAGIX is not prepared to absorb the loss then we'll (I will anyway) pay the few extra $$$ just to have this sorted out once and for all. I just do not get it!!!

Thanks for the heads-up, Dale, about the error message with the AC3-Pro workaround with VP14 b270.

I just tried rendering a test AC3 via the workaround with b270, and I get the same error message even though I don't have DVDA7 (I'm sticking with 6)

After rolling back VP14 to b252, the error message no longer occurs.

I really hope that Magix get AC3-Pro incorporated into VP15 otherwise the lack of AC3-Pro will be a HUGE disincentive to upgrading. It is astonishing to the point of ridiculousness that AC3-Pro was dropped from VP14.

While having AC3 Pro is nice, I'd like to see them modernize a bit on the audio end. I'd like to see multichannel 24 bit PCM support on DVDA for Blu-Ray discs, or the newer Dolby and DTS lossless formats.

AC3 and DVD in general are dying formats. 10 years from now nobody will even play media from an optical disc. We're mostly there already.
