compatability

I am a Pinnacle Refuge I am installing a approved firewire card so I can pull the Pinnacle 7&8 deluxe package and sell it for whatever I can get. I also have the DC10 pinnacle package (talk about a sucker) and I was wondering if I kept the DC 10 card which is analog is there a way I could capture through this card and then import into VV4 to edit?
Thanks

Bear - Hiyah! Can't answer your original question, but I do have one for you.

What was the one single reason you decided to come on over to SoFo and V4? Of course you don't have to answer this - my interest is understanding what decisions exo-SoFo users would/may use to switch here in the UK - yeah? It would give us UK-Veggies some further assistance in assisting others who maybe on the cusp of deciding.

Welcome aboard,

Grazie

I would suggest trying two things.

1) Launch SonicFoundry's VidCap program and check to see if the DC10 is listed as one of the available video devices. If so, attempt capturing with it.

2) Capture with whatever software came with the DC10 for this purpose and then try opening the captured file in Vegas.

If either of these work then you can use this card for capturing with Vegas. If not, then you can't.

I used to have a DC10+ until I went digital and put a firewire card in my machine. I found it to be a pretty good card with a good codec for the money. I used it with Premier without a hitch, but as Chienworks suggests I think you'll have to use the Studio app for capture and playback to tape. But you should be able to use Vegas for your editing, just make sure you are using the miroDC10 codec. And you will have to render a finished file from Vegas, no playing back fron the timeline in Vegas I wouldn't have thought.

Grazie,
I have been a long time user of Found Forge 6, I do a lot of audio work with artists making demos. One of the folk artists I was recording asked me what I used to edit with and I told him, He suggested I give VV4 a try and I did adn fell in love with it. Still not using all the features but most everything is pretty straight forward that I do. Being a long time Sound Forge the interface is fairly easy for me. I spent a fortune on Pinnacle and even spent money upgrading computer without solving problems with the program. Being a cripple I have a lot of time to work on things and let me tell you I must have put in hundreds of hours working with pinnacle products, I made some nice music videos with it but the effort was unbelievable. I won an award for a music video I produced at the big competition in Pigeon Forge TN but I kept track of the time I spent and the 4 minute music video took me over 24 hours to do. by comparison I just completed a one hour 38 minute video with 4 chapters and numerous fades and transitions including still pictures as well. The entire project took me less than one afternoon. I burned it to a dvd-r and a dvd-rw bothe copies were perfect. The client picked it up and she called me before she had even finished viewing the DVD to tell me how happy she was.
I would not even consider another program after my experience with VV4. I did try Premire but felt even though it is a powerful program it included a lot of stuff I would pretty much never use.

Bear,
You can open, edit and save Studio MJPEG files in Vegas. You can't output directly from Vegas through the DC10+. You can use Vegas capture (at least in VV2) from the DC10+ as long as the Studio codecs are installed. This means Studio needs to also be on the machine. I still prefer to capture in Studio (1.06) or AVI_IO for multiple file support.

Bear - thanks for the feedback. I'll keep that in mind when I/we next talk with other folks - Good points you make.

Bear,

I just switched over from Pinnacle's garbage too... VV4 is twice as good as anything I have used so far. Good luck with it. And my DC10 does show up as a capture device with VV4 but I have not used it...

Hope all works out with your DC10

Thanks Tim and Grazie, I think I will pull the Studio 7/8 card and put the dc10 program and card back in if I need to. I normally run through my digital video camera to load vhs and svhs and send it back the same way for tape. Just thought the DC 10 would give me a good way to capture the analog without using my video camera. By the way if you want to see some real whinning and dounright nasty comments just take a visit to the Pinnacle forums. I have been around a long time and this week I am going to drop a line to videomaker mag with my feelings and to ask them why they do not pay a little more attention to VV4.
