Compatibility Mode: if it ain't broke...

...fix it anyway? Well, not for me.

I just finished a major project and started a new one, so I figured, what the heck, I'll try out this compatibility mode business (Win7 64bit SP1, Vegas Build 683). I dropped down to "Windows 7." My timeline has only Cineform avi's, some wav audio events, and just a smattering of FX, i.e., FBMN White Balance, Magic Bullet Looks 2.0.

My setup wasn't unstable before. I mainly wanted to see if I would LOSE anything in compatibility mode and, by golly, I did. I use izotope Ozone on almost all of my audio. Normally, it's Matrix-like interface pops up instantly and is snappy, along with real time playback as I adjust sliders.

In compat mode, however, it took 15-20 seconds to load and was very sluggish during realtime playback. With loads of audio to sweeten, this wasn't acceptable.

I unchecked compat mode and, bang, I'm back to snappy performance. I assume this has something to do with whatever Windows components Ozone utilizes. Just another data point in case others decide to search.

It's not a surprising outcome. Compatibility mode is just a workaround.

This might give the SCS folks a way to triangulate on the problem, I suppose.

It's also maybe a little interesting to me that your system with a little older Core CPU doesn't have a problem, and of my two computers the one running the older Core CPU is also the one that doesn't need Compatibility mode.

just to add to this (i7-920). tried comp. mode win 7 and vegas hung at 'creating windows' (nvidia gtx550ti).

otherwise so far so good, but not pushing it too hard.
