compressing

hi i'm using vegas 4.0 i have a movie that i recorded onto my HD from a VHS the move is 1685mb in size is there any way vegas 4.0 can compress it or is there any easy program to it's a avi file

You can import to vegas and render in avi,mpeg1,mpeg2, vmw and other,
but every time you compress file it will lose the resolution. What format did you capture?. If you capture in AVI the you can render in mpeg2 and do not lose much, but if you capture in mpeg then to make smoler file size you will need to render in vmw8 and that will give to you max size of 320x240 what is good for web if that what you are want.
