Confused About Vegas Pro Patches, Please Advise

As you know reading my other posts here that I am considering upgrading to Vegas Pro from MS 9 Plat Pro. I've read about issues concerning update patches for Vegas Pro. Could you please explain to me what the issues are exactly. My desktop is a 32 Bit quad core Intel Windows XP machine, my laptop, however, is a 64 Bit Vista Ultimate edition with a Core 2 Duo Processor. The 64 bit laptop is maxed out on 4 gigs of ram.

What are the issues regarding 64 bit OS and Vegas Pro specifically. I'd read about plug-ins not working on version 8.1, is this true regarding the plugin working on 32 bit machines? Is the 8.1 update only for 64 bit Vista? I also have just purchased Cinescore and would like to be able to use it on the laptop.

I'm a little leary of buying the product if there are going to be issues, especially when there are rumors of Vegas Pro 9 possibly coming out this year.

Have mercy on a noobe and help me sort this out.

I have Vegas MS Plat 8 installed on the laptop and it seems to be running OK so far, I just have to transcode my ACVDH footage to .m2t.. I've not done an entire project, but have sucessfully rendered a 9 minute clip to an HD format output. I am wondering though if I'll have other issues and if Vegas Pro 8 will be needed to be able to do editing of video in the long run for my projects.

Tomsde,

What exactly are you hoping to get from Vegas Pro that you aren't able to do with MS9 Platinum Pro? That might help readers in answering your concerns.

[Update] Just noticed your thread "Is it worth it?" which answers some questions. You might want to look up up threads on 8.1 on this forum to find issues related to that. Keep in mind you can run 8.1 and 8.0c on the same system if you run into problems with one or the other (which it is likely you will).

If it were me, I'd wait a bit for the next version to be released since you have VMS9 anyway, and it sounds like the features you're looking for are "nice to have" rather than something that's stopping you from doing your work right now. Now if you could time your Vegas pro 8 purchase so that it would be within 30-days of the new version being released...

I'd like to work with masks and selective color specifically, though there are some work arounds for those things in MS. The price is good right now on Vegas Pro, and I know that I wouldn't be able to afford another upgrade to Vegas Pro 9 this year if it does come out this year. I know that once a new version is released, support for version 8 will essentially cease and they'll be no more patches. I wish that Sony would give us a hint as to what is going on in terms of development; that would help make a more educated choice.
