For those who haven't heard, Mike Chenoweth has set up a curriculum, equipment, etc for a new media-high school known as "East Hollywood." They're getting lots of radio and television coverage. You can see a picture of the school, with Cheno's extra-tall frame in it...

He's not a teacher, but it's been predominantly his baby as he's a fairly well known and respected editor in Utah. Plus, he's loaded the school up with several Vegas-based editing systems.
He's too shy to talk about it, so I'll toot his horn. He was also on television for an hour and a half yesterday morning.
Way to go Cheno!

Congratulations Cheno! Having this kind of facility for kids is an outstanding contribution to the community and their future. I know that’s how I got started in all of this. Back in college, I had some open credits that I had to fill so I took a course on T.V. production and once I got into the control room and produced my first little show there at the college, I was hooked.

I was also fortunate to have gone to a vocational high school. I think we need more of these. Just teaching the 3-R’s in high school is not enough to prepare anyone for the real world. Having the ability to learn a craft early in life is extremely important in guiding young minds.

You done good! ;-)

Thanks, guys.

This has been an ultra-consuming effort on behalf of a lot of people to pull this off. We're in our old CBS affiliate building. Lots of OLD toys (now props) but nonetheless alot of room to grow. I'm here for 4 hours a day teaching - hats off to all who do. You're not paid enough!

I'll pop in more often and keep you updated. Got a great little plug in for Vegas on the news the other day.. :)

Great news, congrats Mike.
My girlfriend has a grant proposal in to use video as a teaching resource in the local grade schools. Instead of teaching videography, however, the idea is to have kids write their own stories, videotape their efforts, and provide them with the resulting videotape. It's astonishing the inner growth that can come to a 4th or 5th grader from an experience like this, the chance to see themselves from the perspective of someone else, coupled with the inner satisfaction that comes from having a hand in the creation.

Not to mention my own chance to apply Vegas to a worthwhile cause.
