Considering Vegas

Greetings - I am currently running the trial version of Vegas 6, to evaluation purchasing for an upcoming project (we have FCP, but that system won't be available for this project, and I want to be able to offload some video work from time to time - I run Nuendo for audio on PC (composer/producer mainly), so Vegas seems like a nice complement - I'm not psyched about Avid's workflow, so I've ruled it out for the moment, and hopefully for the longterm).

My questions (pardon the inclusion of several in one thread - less clutter for the forum):

1 - For professional users (as in using Vegas for fulltime client work), any glaring disadvantages to using Vegas for standard industrial video work (mainly capture from DV and/or Beta, edit, render, for DVD - no layback, film, etc - probably just SD this project)?

2 - Anyone running Vegas on an AMD X2 4200-4600? I know Vegas 6 supports dual cores and multiple cpus, but want to be sure it works in the real world before building an X2 machine for it.

3 - Anyone using a Matrox Parhelia APVe - any problems? I will probably end up just using a p650 AGP card as the socket 939 motherboard I would most likely go with only has standard PCI slots and 1 AGP, but I am considering other options.

Thanks!

1 - No disadvantages that I can see... I edited an 11 episode TV show with Vegas and had no problems at all.

2 - I don't but I often talk to one of the programmer who runs dual dual-core opterons (that's 4 processors) and apparantly it's very very fast. Vegas 6 is highly optimized for multiple processors.

3 - Can't answer that one...

Running Vegas on a dual dual core (275's on a Tyan 2895 mobo)
Also running on two different X2 4400+ systems with a pair of 4800+ on order.
Smokin' fast.

Stan Harrington did a 90 minute film with Vegas only, and he doesn't know much about NLE's, period.
Jessariah did a 90 minute feature with Vegas, it's doing quite well in sales.

I have an APVe, and no problems, except that Vegas can't take advantage of the component out. Matrox uses proprietary drivers for this.

Thanks for the replies - the trial version has me convinced too - I really like the workfow - seems to be an efficiently coded app.

DSE - have you benchmarked how much faster Vegas runs on the dual dual core vs. X2s? Just curious if its a full twofold speed increase, or just shy of that.
