Converters

Has anyone done any research on converters?

I am looking at the RME 8 I/O or the MOTU pieces. What else
besides dynamic range comes into play when choosing a
converter?

If anyone knows of a "shoot-out" done by any magazine, I
would appreciate the info. I'm trying to build something
beyond the standard sound card.

Thanks, Thomas

I keep repeating myself on this forum, but here I go again:

I think that the Frontier Dakota card paired with 2 Tango24 8-channel
converters is probably the best setup out there. The whole package
can be had for less than $1800, which may seem like a lot, but
Frontier's stuff is truly top-notch, from the hardware down to
support.

Works perfectly with Vegas, too.

Two sites to check out for more info/pricing:

www.frontierdesign.com
www.bayviewproaudio.com

My 2 cents,
Carl

That's true, Carl, you have mentioned the Dakota. But the Tango has a
dynamic range of 105 db. While nice in it's price range, not in
contention with the two converters that I mentioned.

Therefore, my question was "What else besides dynamic range comes
into play when choosing a converter?" because I'm just trying to get
a bit more educated about this decision. I keep hearing "dynamic
range" from articles and such.

The 8 I/O from RME looks to be about 115db and the MOTU is at 116db
for the 1224. However, I hear the latency is worse on the MOTU while
this is a strong point for the 8 I/O- which is the most expensive at
around $1500 for 8 in's/out's but with Lightpipe and TDIF
capabilities.

Some much to know. I do thank you for your input, though.

Peace, Thomas.
