Cool effect combination

Hi, all.

I just posted this at the WWUG forums. I'd love to see more people sharing effects they've cooked up, so please post if you've got 'em!

This effect creates an interesting light / smoke / water background to a foreground image, automatically using a matching color palette. I use it for my company logo.

To view an example, visit my site at www.blue7media.com, go to samples, and watch Mini Olympian. Be sure to download one of the high quality versions, since there’s a bug with the low quality renders. At the end of the video, you’ll see my logo.

There are several ways to do it, here’s my method:

- Import your image with a transparent background (I used photoshop format).

- Place it on the timeline, adjust its position and size, and stretch it to the desired length.

- Duplicate the track.

- Apply a Light Rays filter to the bottom track. Adjust both X and Y radius to .5, pull the sensitivity to 0, and the strength to 1.

- Apply a Gaussian Blur to the bottom track. (It’s important that the blur appears second in the string of filters.) Adjust both horizontal and vertical ranges to .250.

You should now see a ghostly image in the background, and all you have to do is move the Light Rays light source around and assign some keyframes. To fade the effect in, start the Light Rays with a strength of zero, and let it build. You can adjust the brightness with the composite level of the lower track.

You can get some cool effects by reducing one of the Gaussian blur radiuses to zero, and it gets really psychedelic when you uncheck one or two of the color channels. Happy experimenting! Let me know what you come up with.
