Copy DVD .VOB file to hard drive losing sound

I have PC using Sony 12. I have been successfully copying DVD .VOB files to the hard drive, then I change extension to .mpg and I can play with sound. however, when copying another .VOB file, intermittently I will lose the sound track using the same steps as before. I am copying from a long video so there is sound all thru the video. when I import a another DVD it can again have the sound. is there some setting that will make it work consistently
thanks

Are you sure the audio plays directly from the DVD?

Is the audio there if you use another player such as VLC?

Have you tried using the Project > Import DVD Camcorder Disc... method?

Copying the .vob file from disc to HD then changing the extension to .mpg doesn't change the file structure so shouldn't affect audio.

Post the text view results from MediaInfo for an affected file.

It's possible that the ones that work use MP3 audio while the ones that don't use AC3. Not all players can handle AC3 outside of the DVD structure.
