Copy media with project

dongle99 wrote on 11/21/2015, 10:07 AM

When saving a project I am using the option COPY MEDIA WITH PROJECT

I am using this instruction when trying to reduce the Gb of my project.
I would like to carry out two editing processes before doing this.
1. Cuttting, trimming and deleting clips. Am I correct in assuming that this will be reflected in the newly created project.
2. Colour adjusting and stabilizing clips. Am I correct in thinking the clips would not carry these edits in the reduced project.

I would like to use these smaller projects as part of a bigger project. Would I need to leave the colour editing and stabilizing until all the clips where piled into in the final project.

Some video file types will be trimmed by this operation. I know uncompressed AVI and DV will be. Most other types are not and Vegas copies the entire file, no matter how small a portion is used in the project.

The only change that happens to the files is trimming (if indeed that does happen). The effects are not applied until a new file is rendered. The only way for these effects applied in the smaller project to appear in the larger project is to import the smaller project's .veg file as a nested project.

Thank you for this info. I am interested to know if the clips are trimmed. I was hoping it might save me some Gb in the final storage.

I use this same thing now Copy Media With Project. I go with option 1. Copy Source Media. Option 2. is Create Trimmed Copies Of Source Media. What is this for?

I see if I go to Save As in the menu then I Check Save Media With Project my Project will be saved in my new folder but it will keep Copies of all the Media that is in the TimeLine.

Because it make Copies of all the Media that is in the TimeLine I can Delete the same Media from where ever it pulls it from.

I do not want to have Copies of the Media in my TimeLine what I want to do is Save my Project as .vf but have it Save just the Media that is in the TimeLine so I can Delete all the Media files that it will be pulling from.

This way I can just keep the .vf file anyplace and not keep any Copies of all the Media files.

I hope I am asking in the Right way?

Please let me know?

@Robert-Costo it sounds like you want to use

Option 2. is Create Trimmed Copies Of Source Media

That will trim the copied media to only be the portions actually used on the timeline.

Ok I just used Create Trimmed Copies Option.

It still makes Copies of the Files and puts them in the same Folder as the Save As .vf File.

What I want to do is have a stand alone .vf File that will just keep all the Files in the TimeLine but not make any Copies of the Media at all in the same Folder.

So when I open a Saved .vf File whatever is in the TimeLine open as is and does not need to look for the same Files in the Folder.

So it will keep the Files in the TimeLine but not need the original Files every time you open the .vf File.

So after I make my TimeLine as I want it and go to Save As .vf and save this File I can Delete all the Media in the Folder because it will have it in the TimeLine.

I think I ask in the Right way now please let me know?

@Robert-Costo You always have to have the media files somewhere on your PC in a folder, whether that is the orig media or a copy. You can't - 'Save As .vf and save this File I can Delete all the Media in the Folder because it will have it in the TimeLine.'. Vegas needs something to refer to..

If you just want to 'save' the trimmed events you could try - Tools - Scripting - Batch render, if you have that..? Create Regions for each event on the timeline & use that 'Regions' option in the window that pops-up. Choose 1 render option (prob better to choose a lossless option as it does render the events but someone else will give better advice than me on that)
