Some formats are able to be trimmed, such as DV. For these Vegas will create new trimmed .avi files and also separate the trimmed audio into it's own .wav file. Formats that can be smart-rendered may also be trimmed in the same way. These files generally end up with a -000, -001, -002 appended to them depending on how many events they occur in on the timeline.

Most other formats can't be trimmed, so copies of the entire file are produced.
