Copy protected DVD

I was trying to record some footage off a commercial DVD (for personal use). I tried going from my sony dvd player analog outs to my PD150. I got a message on my cam that says copy inhibit and it would not record. Is that a sony hardware thing or is it on the dvd?

So I then popped the dvd in my computer and copied the vob files into vegas. I was not expecting it to work, but it did. Can anyone explain this.

it's the camera. it's pretty much everything now. DVCPro's can copy of DVD's but they can't couteract the macrovision enough so the bottom 1/4 is crap. :)

I've taken stuff off DVD & used on my compuer alot. the computer just sees it as files, nothing more. the DVD had a copyright/macrovision bit on it. the DVD player has macrovision built in. if the bit tells it to, it enables the macrovision. DVD's on your computer don't have this problem.

Neat, huh?
