Can someone please explain how the new copy protection tool works in DVD Architect 3. What does one have to do to protect against copying of work? Thanks
It doesn't do most folks any good at all unless you are going to make 1,000 copies via a replication facility.
CSS and Macrovision can only be applied to disks that are replicated, not disks that are duplicated (burned). All the copy protection features of DVDA3 do are to set some flags in the output sent to the DLT so that the replication facility knows that the protection is desired.
The thing is, that even with CSS and/or Macrovision, you cannot protect your DVD from being copied - anyone with a computer and some software designed to defeat the copy proteciton schemes can make copies of your DVD.
The copy protection facilities built into DVDA-3 are basically for users who will have their DVDs replicated, not burned or duplicated. Even if you do set up your master for copy protection in DVDA-3, you'll have to license this protection to have the replicator include it on your discs.
And after all that work & extra expense incurred, someone will download DVD Shrink for free and copy your discs anyway.
Oops -- a little slow on the switch. Scott beat me to it...
