Copying/editing movies

I am running Movie Stdio HD Platinum

I have used a number of movie editing programmes in the past and they all do it differently!

I have a number of football games converted. I now want to grab/copy the highlights from all these games and then create a highlights package. How do i this and what terminology does Sony use for these cut up files? Is it an event?

I don't really want to cut up the original gaem files in case i lose them. I just want to copy some small clips.

Make sense? Many thanks for your help.

Hi Domestar and welcome to the forums,
Sizing, trimming, and splitting events on the timeline do not affect your original media files in any way.
All the directions you need to be successful are included in the Interactive Tutorials that came with your program.
Follow them, and post back if you have specific questions.

I've worked out how to create subclips. But where do these go? They don't seem to store as a separate file anywhere.

i want to be able to create a whole lot of subclips and then rearrange into an end video.

And another question - i have .vob files and am converting them to use in Vegas. I have been converting them into Quicktime files as this looks as tho it's the fastest, but when i've gone to edit them the quality is not that good.

Is Quicktime the best format to convert them to? Or would .avi or .wmv be better to ensure good final quality in the video? (or soem other format - i'm using Any Video Converter as the tool)

Thanks so much for all your help!

.vob files are just .mpeg2 files formatted in 1mb chunks for DVD. You can simply rename the files from .vob to .mpg and edit directly in VMS. No conversion necessary.

I think i've nutted it out.

It looks as tho by creating media bins so i can manage all my sub clips - then i can go back to these with all future projects!

if anyone has a better solution would be keen to hear it!

Further to the above - can media bins be saved ACROSS projects?

No, media bins can not be saved across projects.

However, (from the help file) "You can also drag media bins from the Project Media window across two instances of Vegas Movie Studio software: drag a bin from one Project Media window and drop it on a bin in the other instance."

You could create a master project (a template) and use it to create new projects to contain your media bins. Open the "master" project and immediately do a Save As for your working project.

I have never used media bins, BTW, I just organize my video in folders and use the Explorer tab in VMS to find/add them. As long as you add/import/capture your video in a structured way and organize them into logical folders, you should be able to find them with ease.

That's how i've done it in the past too - organise it in folders through Explorer. But i've yet to work out how to save subclips to a folder
