Copying events across .veg projects

I have several parts of a project that are in separate veg files.

For example - coast.veg has 4 video events, buildings.veg has 3 video events, flowers.veg has 1 event. If I want to consolidate some events from each veg fie into one new veg file, how do I do that? i.e, if I want 2 events from coast.veg, 1 from buildings.veg and 1 from flowers.veg to be in a new file called consolidated.veg, what's the best way to do it? copy-pasting events across veg files doesn't seem to work...

Thanks,
Kunal

Copying from one .veg to another works fine - just make sure that both projects are open when you do it, and that you don't try pasting from an earlier numbered version of Vegas.

Have you tried nesting all the .veg files in one project and then just using the necessary portions?

It was this that got me thinking a bit further through our chum's request:

" If I want to consolidate "

- It was this "some" that got me thinking that that meant "discreet" and complete Events. And as you know, this does NOT necessarily happen with Nesting. Yes we get ALL of a VEG into a main Consolidated VEG, but this also means that the possible/maybe transitions appearing between EventA & EventB and so on would also come across. Now, un-picking a transition within a consolidated VEG is a messy business. If it is straight cuts then sure, we'd have a much better chance. And yes I COULD be making more of this than is required, but there again it COULD be relevant - yes?

Which leads me onto the other comment: "copy-pasting events across veg files doesn't seem to work..." Well, yes it SHOULD work but here our chum is possibly WANTING complete Events and non-consecutive - yes? Just as an aside, I need to insert at least ONE new video track to be able to PASTE from another VEG.

So yes, Nested Veggies in a consolidated VEG, but with a caveat - yeah?

Grazie, you interpreted my question correctly - yes, I was referring to copying select events to a new consolidated.veg

I should've tried opening another instance of Vegas before posting, though. I copied an event from a .veg, went to 'file' and opened another .veg file and tried pasting. Didn't work. Opening another instance of Vegas with the 2nd .veg file and copy-pasting to that did work. Duh.

While we're on nesting - when does it make sense to nest vs. copy-pasting events across .veg projects? Does nesting make more sense if you want to carry over all events across multiple .veg projects to another consolidated veg file? Are there other reasons why I would want to nest vs. copy-paste?

You might find some help from this thread:

My Workflow for Large Project

The short version of what is in that link is that you can create regions (or markers) in each project to show which clips you want to use. Then, drop the VEG file from each project onto a timeline in a new project. Then -- and this is the "trick" -- you use a script to create subclips from the markers that are embedded in all the clips on the timeline. Finally, you go to the Project Media area and you will now find all those marked areas in your VEG files now appear as subclips. If you aren't familiar with subclips, they act and "feel" just like they were a piece of media. So, you can now drag them to the timeline in whatever order you want them, directly from within this one consolidated project.
