Copying .Veg files

I thought I could do this but obviously I am doing something wrong...

The problem: I want to copy a selection from one veg file to another, both video and audio.

The solution: Open V5 with the .avi file I want to select from; select the portion I want to copy, and right click on copy. Open another copy of V5 with a new timeline. Insert the selection using Paste.

The result: Only the video get copied in, but not the audio. Where did I go wrong?

Did you select both tracks as well as the timeline selection?

Good point!!!!

Went back to selected both video & audio but still the video only pasted. But I was able to select and copy the audio only and then pasted the audio. I still thought you could copy/paste multiple tracks.

You need to select both the audio and video events in the timeline, then copy/paste.

Click on the video track, hold down the CTRL key then click on the audio track then both of them will be selected. Do a CTRL + C to copy, then go to the other Vegas and do a CTRL + V to paste both the audio and video.

Thanks... that got it to work. I think I selected my range before I selected the audio and that's why only the video was being pasted.

Works fine now.... (How easily it is for one to forget the simple things of track selection <grin>)

WHOA!!!

It is happening again!!! I cannot copy/paste both the audio/video selection from one timeline to another timeline. Only the video is pasting. This time I made sure to select both the video and audio tracks. I even restarted both copies of V5. I can't explain why it worked one time but now is not working.
Very Strange!!!!!

PS. The ONLY way I got this to work correctly is to:

1. On the source .veg, use the EDIT/SELECT ALL
2. Select a region to copy and EDIT/COPY
3. On the target .veg, position the curser and EDIT/PASTE

For some reason that's the only way I can select both the video/audio tracks
Hopes this helps someone else who may experience a similar problem.

Vegas lets you select in a variety of ways. This can cause confusion. You can select tracks, events, and loop regions.

When cutting and pasting, the only sure way is to select the events you want to copy. Don't bother selecting tracks, and don't make any loop selections.

If the events are all next to each other, you can click on the first event to select it. Then, press and hold the Ctrl key and select the audio event that corresponds to that video event. Release the Ctrl key. Next, scroll to the last event. Press and hold the shift key and then click first on the video event, and then on the audio event. Release the shift key and then go to the Copy function in the Edit menu to copy the events. You should then be able to click on the video track in the second instance of Vegas, click at the location on the video track where you want to past the audio and video, and then select Paste.

Thanks for the clarification, Johnmeyer.

Since I had only one "event" in the source timeline (an .avi) with two tracks (audio & video), I selected the video and audio track "events" and that worked. I then just sliced out the section of the .avi that I wanted in the new timeline.
