Copyright Bit and New Material Bit

I see from Help that these don't do anything but establish an indicator, but that's all it says. Don't find anything searching on Google.

Anyone know where the indicator shows up and the purpose?

And even then they're pretty much meaningless. There is no way to prevent your material from being copied.
