Core Duo vs. Core 2 Duo, WOW!

as you may have heard me rant I was returning my Dell laptop with a core duo in it. well, I ordered an HP and that had a Core 2 duo at the exact same proc speed in Hz rating. 1.83Ghz

UN-BE-LIEVEABLE!! I can't begin to tell you how much faster/better this proc is. I did a 3D rotation of 4 planes of video in 3D space and was able to hit full framerate. I couldn't get anything that good with the core duo at the same speed. And Vegas opens up much MUCH faster it seems with this laptop too. WILD!! Well, I'm off to get things prepped, I have to get Windows again. The disk I have doesn't recognize the HD in the laptop. (it's a really old XP Pro Disc I have). I think I'll need to go to my cousin in Microsoft and have him get me a new one.

If the HDD is SATA (Serial ATA) and you have a Window XP original or XP SP1 installation disk, then you will need to do either of two things...

1. Get a floppy with the SATA drivers on, and during install press F6 (I think, perhaps F2) to tell Windows that you need 3rd party drivers installed.

2. Create a Windows XP SP2 installation disk. Have a look here for details how: http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/winxp-sp2-bootcd.html

I'd say method two is better as you won't have to install SP2 after installing Windows, which can take a long time (not on a Core 2 Duo, though!)

Good Luck,

Worley

I just bought a HP desktop with a Core 2 Duo. It also has 2 GB's of RAM. Cost $834. I'm looking forward to doing some render tests.

Speaking about computers in general, it seems to be the only industry where the products get better, but the prices stay the same or even fall. Wish the car biz was that way. =P

Which HP desktop was it?

I'm looking at the Dell Precision 390. I want something that can handle at least three internal drives.

This last week I saw Vegas fly with Preview and building RAM Preview . Wooooah! Very delicious! Very delicious INDEED!

See Guys?!? Vegas was just waiting for the PC to be up to speed and this stuff just FLYS! I can see myself making FX and Edit decisions faster than ever.

See! Vegas got it right! Be format agnostic and make USE of whatever PC speed/power present at THAT time.
